The Mist - Analysis
I chose this visual text to be a photograph because my art skills are sadly lacking, and so a photograph more easily captures the emotion and clarity of a scene. With a photograph, I have more of an ability to use visual techniques to convey my meaning. This picture is meant to correspond with So We’ll Go No More a Roving. In this picture, the heart pauses to breath, as found in the second stanza of that poem. I used black and white to show this because it is a simple concept: humans have limitations, they are not immortal, and it is a necessity to pause from time to time and realize this. There is a dramatic contrast between the water and the two people to symbolize the night and the day, as written in Byron’s poem, and the different extremes a life can take. Lastly, I used an eye level shot to create a sense of simplicity.
For this visual text, I was trying to avoid showing my lack of skill in drawing or painting, and photography is something I enjoy. Aside from that, I believe this picture corresponds well with So We’ll Go No More a Roving, and the emotions in the poem. In this way, I was successful in creating this visual text. I also tried something new and edited the photograph on my computer, and I am satisfied with the end result.
