Freedom - Analysis
The poetic form for this piece is free verse. I used this to reflect the freedom represented by the poem. I used free verse for this poem to reflect the freedom and lack of boundaries running holds, in that it can take a person anywhere, as long as they move. For literary techniques, I used personification, similes, and metaphors. Personification is in line five, with the ridges having emotions, line six, with rocks looking innocent, and line seven, with the emotion of the creek and the ability of trees to throw shade. In line two, I used a simile to compare the lung capacity of a runner, with a puzzle. There is a metaphor in line four, in which the gracefulness of strides is compared to “liquid light.”
In this poem, I was hoping to create an overall effect of serenity. Despite difficult passages, running holds freedom and consistency. I believe I met this goal. I tried to use words that evoke light imagery and emotions and I also started every second line with a verb to show the consistency of running.
